CSIR UGC NET 2020: Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Dates and Eligibility Norms

All India entrance exam, CSIR UGC Net is arranged by the CSIR with an approach to choose eligible candidates with Indian Nationality to award Junior research fellowship and get appointed as lecturers in different subjects like physical sciences, mathematical, life, chemical, earth, ocean & planetary sciences.

This exam is arranged two times in a year- June and December. A multiple-choice question based single paper exam is either suitable for Junior Research Fellowship or Lecturership. The candidate applying for Junior research fellowship fulfilling the lecturership criteria is considered for LS and JRF both.

Exam Pattern-CSIR UGC NET

The exam consists of a single paper test that covers the following exams- Chemical sciences, life sciences, mathematical sciences, earth, atmospheric, ocean and planetary sciences, and physical sciences.

The complete question paper is comprised of 3 segments-

Part A: Common to all mentioned subjects, Part A consists of 20 questions related to general aptitude. Each question is of 2 marks, and the candidate has to answer any 15 questions.

Part B: It consists of multiple-choice questions related to the subjects. The candidate has to give the answer to any 20-35 questions. It carries 70 marks out of 200.

Part C: This section is arranged for testing scientific knowledge of candidates via analytical skills. You need to attempt 25 questions, each question has 4 marks.

Morning session- 9 Am To 12 PM, 180 MIN

Afternoon session: 2 PM to 5 PM, 180 MIN

There is a provision of negative marking for false attempts. Its applicability is decided as per the subject wise scheme of the exam.

CSIR UGC NET Exam Eligibility

The aspirant must be the Citizen of India

The maximum age limit for JRF NET as on 01.01.2020-28 year for June Session

The maximum age limit for JRF NET as on 01.07.2020-28 years for the December session.

Age relaxation for OBC candidates: 3 Years

Age relaxation for female/ disable candidates- 5 years

Age relaxation for SC/ST candidates-5 years


Note: There is no upper age limit for LS (NET)

CSIR UGC NET EXAM Application Process

The application process of CSIR UGC NET exam 2020 June session will start from 16 March 2020. The last date to submit the form is 15 April 2020. Candidates are allowed only to apply via online mode, an application other than this will not be accepted. It is recommended for every candidate to read the information bulletins carefully before filling the application form. The information bulletins will start coming from the first week of March 2020.

  • Applicants need to follow steps below to fill the application form:
  • First of all, visit the official website of CSIR- www.csirhrdg.res.in. ( Candidates are eligible to submit online application forms via official website)
  • Now click Apply Online link to open the online application form
  • After that click the "Register Here" link.
  • Now enter email id, mobile number, and password. Then click, "submit". Be sure that you provide a valid email id and mobile number. It will help you receive all important exam details.
  • Once you are registered and signed in, you can see your registration ID on the screen.
  • Now provide all your details like name, parents name, education details accurately, then upload scanned documents- passport size photo, category certificate, signature, etc.
  • Once the application is completed you can Save & Preview it for correctness. Select, "reset" option if you want to reset.
  • On the next page, you will get two options- Edit application of final submission, and free payment.
  • If you're all details are correct, then you can finally submit, and proceed for fees payment.
  • After making payment, the Success will be seen on the screen.
  • After successful submission of application, keep auto-generated application number safe.
